March 26, 2009 – One community. One great cause. Nouveau Riche and the Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation rounded up over 75 volunteers to help host seriously ill children and their families at the upcoming Best of the West Carnival on Saturday, April 4, to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation Arizona.

Set in the beautiful Sonoran desert at the rustic MacDonald’s Ranch in Scottsdale, the event will feature hay wagon rides to the carnival site; game booths, including lasso roping, penny pitching, cowboy hat toss, and stick-horse racing; square dancing with a dance instructor; a strolling cowboy singer; a magic show; caricature drawing; face painting; Earl Grey the trick pony; and pony rides. A barbeque, snow cones and cotton candy will complete the festivities.

Starlight Children’s FoundationTM was founded in 1983 to help seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. Starlight’s programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families facing similar challenges so that no one feels alone. Last year, Starlight Children’s Foundation Arizona touched the lives of more than 50,000 children and their families statewide

March 25, 2009 – Honorary Chairs Jim and Mary Piccolo and Starlight Children’s Foundation Arizona hosted its annual Sparkling Starry Soirée evening event this past weekend, which raised $32,000 for programs dedicated to helping seriously ill children and their families, in addition to a Fun Center TM and two PC Pals® to be provided to local hospitals.

Emcee Mark J. Kohler took the stage and introduced those that contributed to the evening. Starlight also recognized Honorary Chairman Jim Piccolo, founder of the Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation and CEO of Nouveau Riche Corporation, for his many contributions. “Working with Starlight Children’s Foundation has proven to be a wonderful way of reaching beyond our known limits of compassion and fulfilling children’s dreams of hope,” said Piccolo. “It’s a privilege to work with such an organization that is truly unique among others, and we are proud to help chair this event.” The night concluded with a live auction including exclusive packages such as a private jet getaway to Las Vegas to see Barry Manilow in concert, an Alice Cooper-autographed guitar, and a backstage entertainment package with Jazz musician Dave Koz.

“Last year, Starlight Arizona touched the lives of more than 50,000 seriously ill children and their families statewide,” said Jo Ann Yeo, community development officer for Starlight Arizona. “We hope that the success of this year’s event will help us reach even more. Help4Kidz and Help4Teenz

“Help 4 Kidz is all about making a positive impact in the lives of children from the inner city of Phoenix. It’s about a window of hope, instilling confidence to rise above the often expected dismal fate of a child in the inner city.” Founder and President of the Help4Kidz Foundation, Rev. Eve Nunez has been assisting children and teens at risk for more than 30 years. Through her latest program, Help4Teenz, she works with at-risk, abused, neglected, or adjudicated youth. The program provides tutoring, anger-management, leadership-development and job-readiness services to help teens develop positive behaviors, strengths, abilities and skills. Recently, Nouveau Riche Co-founder and CEO Jim Piccolo met with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Nunez to discuss support of the organization’s community efforts. At the June 2008 and October 2008 Nouveau Riche Real Estate Investment Colleges, Piccolo and fellow Nouveau Riche Co-founder Bob Snyder also spoke with groups of nearly 30 youth who are part of the Help4Teenz program, gave them a tour of the College, shared information about Nouveau Riche’s course offerings, and offered them the opportunity to hear Nouveau Riche students’ stories of hope that left the youth pondering the positive possibilities for their future. As an advocate for youth, Jim Piccolo recently announced plans to develop a financial literacy course for young adults. More information about this course coming soon. Judi’s House and Nouveau Riche

Judi’s House

Judi’s House is a Denver-based organization founded in 2002 by Brian Griese, currently the Quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in honor and in memory of his mother who died when he was twelve years old. This organization aims to provide “hope and healing for grieving children” with a unique opportunity to participate in peer support groups with people their own age who are going through similar emotions and experiences. Judi’s House offers free grief support services to help ensure no child feels alone in grief. To date, it has helped over 2,000 youth and adult caregivers. Children meet in age appropriate groups and lead one another through their grief process, as they talk about their feelings and express themselves in a variety of activities. Judi’s House offers four types of groups (on-going, time-limited, Spanish-speaking, and in-school) and lets individuals decide how long they want to continue attending the groups. Adult caregivers also have the opportunity to meet with other caregivers while their children are in group, which grants them the ability to discuss their own grief and learn about grief so that they may better understand their children’s behavior. Brian Griese and his father Bob are personal friends of Nouveau Riche Co-founders Jim Piccolo and Mary Piccolo who, together with The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation, have had the distinct privilege of helping support the efforts of Judi’s House. Rock and roll legend Alice Cooper and his good friend Chuck Savale envisioned a Teen Center, called The Rock, as part of their Solid Rock Foundation’s efforts to improve the lives of youth and create a safe haven for adolescents in Arizona and beyond. Thanks in large part to Nouveau Riche CEO Jim Piccolo, that vision is becoming a reality. At the Rock Teen Center, kids will have the opportunity to seek refuge, and a channel to pursue their passions with education, music and athletics. Alice Cooper stated “you can change one kid’s life and it changes an enormous amount of lives around him/her.” The Center is currently being built on Grand Canyon University property in Phoenix, which was donated to The Solid Rock Foundation by the university. The Rock is a 29,480 square foot facility that will house a recording studio, computer lab, coffee house, game room, classrooms, basketball court, concert hall, and more.
